Hybrid holsters are comprised of a leather backing and a kydex scabbard or sheath. This allows you to switch out scabbards on the same backing for a versatile and comfortable holster. Equal parts comfortable, durable, and conforming, these hybrid holsters provide leather backings for protection between your skin and the metal part of your gun from corrosion and discomfort. The fact is that while they offer great protection, they are not 100% waterproof. If you run an 8 hour marathon in 100 degree heat while carrying your gun in even a horsehide MaxTuck, you are likely going to sweat right through it. The guide below will give you a better idea of which we recommend for your particular situation.
Choosing a Leather Backing for your Concealed Carry Holster
COWHIDE: A cowhide backing will be slightly more comfortable because it is softer than horsehide. This makes holsters made of cowhide perfect for common usage. One minor drawback to using cowhide, however, is that it absorbs sweat. This is not an issue for most people because it takes quite a bit of perspiration to soak through the cowhide to the point that it becomes a problem. Those who work in the heat all day might prefer a horsehide backing however.
HORSEHIDE: Horsehide backings are commonly used by those who carry a concealed weapon for work or other long periods of time. They are better at resisting saturation from sweat and are therefore preferred by those who live in warmer climates or work long hours.

Why Choose a Concealed Carry Holster?
For those who are permitted to carry a concealed weapon, the type of holster they use is of major concern. Everyone has their preference, and one of the most preferred ways to conceal a gun is with an in the waistband holster. These holsters fit comfortably underneath the waistband of a pair of shorts or pants and offer several advantages.
An IWB Holster is Easy to Conceal
A holster that fits in the waistband of the carrier’s pants is much easier to conceal than one that does not. They are specifically designed to be thin, and not bulky. A gun in an IWB holster sits flush against the carrier’s side and will be almost completely unnoticeable except for the butt of the gun that sticks out of the top of the waistband. The butt of the gun is then easy to cover with a loose fitting shirt or coat. With this type of holster, the shirt can even be tucked in over the butt of the gun while still remaining discreet.
An In the Waistband Holster is Designed for Comfort
There are two common materials used for the backing of an in the waistband holster: cowhide and horsehide. These natural materials will not rub against the carrier’s skin and cause irritation like other common textiles used in holsters might, but they will provide enough friction to stay in place under the toughest conditions. The leather backings are large enough to spread the weight of the weapon out comfortably, and slim enough to fit in a natural looking way under your waistband. This is imperative, and it's what makes ours some of the best comfortable concealed carry holsters available.
Hybrid Holsters Offer Unmatched Versatility
A hybrid holster uses a Kydex scabbard which provides extreme durability and versatility. Kydex is a high-performance proprietary thermoplastic that is used because it can be molded into a specific ultra-hard shape. The main reason Kydex is used for the scabbard part of the holster is because it can easily be exchanged for one that fits a different gun without having to purchase a whole new holster.
